PROBES

Probes are radioactively (32P) or non-radioactively (e.g., biotin, fluorescent molecules) labeled, 15-30 bases long segments of DNA or RNA and can detect complementary bases in nucleic acid samples of pathogen by autoradiography (Fig.20.6). Molecular probes for malaria, filarial, tuberculosis, etc., are available for disease diagnosis.
